            Mukta represents one of the most versatile young tabla artists in India making music today. She hails from a family with remarkable musical roots. Mukta began learning classical vocal music, harmonium and transferred her passion to one of the world's most complex percussion instrument the Tabla. She was first introduced to Tabla and many other percussion instruments by her Uncle Shri Sanjay Karandikar at the age of five. 

Mukta is fortunate to receive tutelage of nuances of six gharanas of the Tabla at intimate quarters from one of the most eminent and renowned masters Shri. Amod Dandage and Pt.Arvind Mulgaonkar and Hindustani classical vocal by Smt. Shashi Achawal (Gwalior Gharana) Ust. Aslam Hussain Khan (Agra Gharana), Dhrupad Maestro Ust. Bahauddin Dagar and Light Music from eminent music director Pt. Yashwant Deo. The constant inspiration of all the gurus compels her not only to dedicate herself to the study of Indian classical music but also to extend the reach of the Tabla into an ever-growing variety of musical genres and cultural contexts.
Her fluency in a diversity of musical traditions informs her unique compositions and her highly improvisational performances. Tabla being usually known as a male dominant instrument, she displayed  extraordinary skills and made amazing progress in solo as well as accompaniment with all forms of music.


           Mukta has participated in various competitions right from her schooling days and has won many awards. Noted among them are the Sadhana Music Circle, Pune and Late. Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music Competition stands out as a peak of her achievements. She has scored First Class in 'Tabla Alankar I' and Praveshika Purna (vocal) examination held by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, India. She has been bestowed with the prestigious Ministry of Culture Music Scholarship for the year 2010-13 by the Government of India and The Joan Memorial Trust has awarded her scholarship under 'The young and talented artists of Hindustani Music' for the year 2013-2015. Mukta is an alumni of ‘OneBeat 2016’  Music Exchange Program which is an initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by Found Sound Nation. Mukta has also formed a follow on project to OneBeat namely 'Sadhana: Music for Social Change’ with fellow OneBeat musicians. She has performed several times as guest artist at U. S Consulate, Mumbai for Women Empowerment Contest.


        Mukta gave her first public performance, at the age of seven and has performed widely in prestigious concerts in India and abroad. She has given Solo recitals and accompanied with eminent artists of Indian Classical Music including Smt. Asha Khadilkar, Manjiri Alegaonkar, Arti Ankalikar, Apurva Gokhale, Pournima Dhumale, Neela Bhagwat, Sitar virtuoso Smt. Anupama Bhagwat, Shahana Banerjee, Meeta Nag, Shri. Rais Khan, Pt. Arun Dravid, Dinkar Panshikar, Nityanand Haldipur (Flute), Ust. Aslam Hussain Khan, Yakub Hussain Khan, Amod Dandage, Warren Senders and music directors of Hindi and Marathi film industry, Pt. Yashwant Deo, Shri. Shridhar Phadke, Anand Modak, Kaushal Inamdar, Mithilesh Patankar and Salil Kulkarni, Enoch Daniel and R.D Burman Orchestra and performed in an informal gig at Julliard School of Music with Wynton Marsalis. She has also conducted lecture demonstrations for Tabla in U.S.A and has worked as an examiner and accompanist for the examinations of vocal and instrumental music conducted by A.B.G.M. Mandal.


            Mukta has performed in many television shows such as 'Saam Marathi Gurukul' competition for Tabla and has been interviewed in DD Sahyadri's 'Hello Sakhi' for Tabla Accompianiment with various vocal forms. She has imparted Tabla lessons to famous actor of Bollywood industry Sonam Kapoor and has worked with music director Amit Trivedi for the movie PadMan. She also nurtures upcoming talents at her institute 'Taal Matrix School of Music and Dance'.
